thought on Giving

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

- Matthew 6:21

Why we give.

The first thing that comes to mind when we use the word give is financial gifts.  While financially partnering with God and His local church is certainly one way to give, it is not the only way to give to God.  God has gifted each and every member of His church with a way to serve Him.  He has given each of us unique talents and passions which we are expected to offer back to Him in return.
When a believer looks at their checkbook or personal calendar, it should reflect how he or she gives back to God.  This service we offer to God is not done under compulsion, or under a sense of obligation to gain merit or favor in His eyes.  Instead we should give of ourselves in a manner of gratitude for all that God has done for us.

Romans 12:4-8 NIV
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, [5] so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. [6] We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; [7] if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; [8] if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
