(3/19/2020 update)
Check back to this page for the most up to date information concerning the Coronavirus as it relates to SCC.
As people of compassion and faith, we want to be people of faith and not fear. We don’t want to panic, but we do want to be prepared. At SCC, we want to care for our congregation in all respects, including the physical well-being of our community. To that end, we are asking you to take precautions to keep yourself and others safe.

Our plan moving forward at this time is:
We have prayerfully come to the decision that starting this weekend, 03/21-22/2020, Spencer Christian Church will have online services only. We will continue to only have online services until it is responsibly appropriate to once again conduct in person services on our campus. We will stream our worship service on Sunday Mornings via Facebook Live at 9:30 a.m. Additionally, services will be posted on our website www.spencerchristian.org/watch and the SCC app at 10:30 a.m.
In addition to our live stream, there will be a drive-up prayer station in our parking lot each Sunday morning from 9:30 to noon. This will be a place where you can drive into the Church parking lot and have someone pray with you and give you communion from the comfort of your vehicle.
If you are able to continue giving during this time you can give online at www.spencerchristian.org/give-financially or go to the “Give” button on the home screen of the SCC app.
In the meantime, in addition to our Sunday Worship service we will also be streaming a Bible Study on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm and doing a weekday Facebook Live update and devotion. At this time, our offices will remain open from 9 – 4:30 Monday - Thursday.
The coronavirus concerns have brought us to some strange times. But let me remind you, the Church is not confined to the walls of a building. The Church is not built with brick and mortar. It is built with the hearts and souls of men and women who love the Lord. We have a great opportunity during these difficult times to really be the Church in our community.
Let me encourage you to Love your neighbors. Give care and support to others. Look out for the needs of others and do what you can to help them. Allow hope to rule your attitudes and actions. Spread that hope to others generously. Allow your light to shine in these dark days.
Our God is sovereign and in control.

CANCELLATIONS:
-Volleyball League-Cancelled
-Youth "to-go" lunch fundraiser - postponed
-Rooted Wednesday (Our Wednesday programming always follows the school calendar.  Spencer County Schools have closed for next week so we have closed Rooted Wednesdays as well)
-Indispensable Church launch  postponed
Previous update prior to 3/14-15 services
We have been monitoring and in contact with the local and district Health Department that oversees our district (North Central District Health Department-https://www.ncdhd.com/).  As of 5pm Eastern Friday 3/13/20 the health department deems our district "current risk for COVID-19 to people in Kentucky is very low. Hand washing is the best method to prevent spread of viruses." Our local health department has not indicated there have been any confirmed cases in our community.
Additionally, we have referenced information prepared by the CDC for community/faith-based organizations https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/community-mitigation-strategy.pdf
In the attached link you will find page 7 is a table that indicates the CDC's suggestion for the measures/precautions a “community and faith-based organization" ought to take in light of COVID-19. Three "levels of community transmission" are listed to determine the appropriate action to be taken: 1. None to Minimal 2. Minimal to Moderate 3. Substantial. These three levels are further defined on page 9 Table 3. As you can see this is something to be determined at a local level and therefore the CDC is not, at this time, making a nationwide determination of appropriate action.
Based on the information provided from the Health Department as 5pm Eastern Friday 3/13/20, we have determined we fall into the CDC 1. None to Minimal level.  Therefore, we have determined to continue to have our weekend services with the following precautions…
  • We will have communion stations throughout our worship center. At these stations gloved servers will hand the emblems directly to the individual. There will also be a basket at each station for offering. This model will take out the concerns for passing the trays from person to person.
  • Our custodial staff have doubled our sanitation efforts.
  • High traffic doors will be propped open to further minimize possible transmission.
  • No food at Coffee Fellowship and no handshaking time in our services until the concerns have subsided.
  • The Children’s Ministry will make appropriate effort and will actively rotate and sanitize toys between services.
  • We will continue to be vigilant in monitoring the situation.
We encourage anyone with compromised health, the elderly or anyone exhibiting symptoms to stay at home and participate in our Facebook live services either on Facebook or later on our website spencerchristian.org/watch or on the watch tab on the app. You can also give online at spencerchristian.org/give-financially .  Additionally, checks can be mailed to 5720 Taylorsville Rd-Fisherville, KY 40023. This virus will undoubtedly affect our in person offerings, and your regular auto giving will help us continue to provide help and hope to others!
